Audi Engine Management Light

Fixing Audi Fault Codes: The Audi  Engine Management Light

The SQ5 is one of Audi’s top-of-the-line performance SUVs. When it was first announced in 2013, it was powered by a V6 diesel engine with more than 300 horsepower. With such high-speed performance, it certainly matches its status and class.

Due to its precision-engineered parts, Audi engineers intended the SQ5 to perform optimally at all times. But sometimes these can be difficult to maintain, and owners should check and service them regularly to avoid costly failures.

As Audi Specialists, a client recently brought their Audi SQ5 to our garage with a check engine light – a plague for many VW-Audi Group owners. The client also reported that the engine had difficulty starting on cold days. In light of the possibility of a multitude of faults, our Audi garage technicians were on hand to investigate every problematic fault code that appeared.

Our client could have faced the possibility of an extremely costly engine replacement due to the illumination of the engine management light. Especially with this rare SQ5 Diesel V6. The client visited us at the right time as the issue could not wait any longer.

The filters, glow plugs, turbochargers, and NOx sensors all play a role in the clean combustion of the fuel with careful engine management. When a check engine light appears, any of these can be to blame, some of which are labour-intensive and costly to fix.

Our Audi expert technician was on hand immediately to service our client’s SQ5. After investigating any fault codes, our technician methodically assessed them one by one and was able to find the root cause of the engine management light.

Identifying the Engine Fault

As Audi specialists, we at Somerset Vehicle Services are confidently able to cater to every Audi customer’s needs. Our recent client needed their problem dealt with professionally and efficiently so they could get back on the road as soon as possible. Our technicians were able to diagnose the engine management light using their vast knowledge of Audi vehicles and diesel engines.

Our technicians used the best dealership tools available alongside their expertise to diagnose the fault in our client’s SQ5. The ODIS tool was used in this case since it is the favoured Audi tool among Audi dealers and authorised specialists, like Somerset Vehicle Services.

Our expert Audi technician performed the initial code reading, which opened a can of worms for the client. A number of intermittent codes were displayed on the SQ5’s dashboard, along with the check engine light. They were as follows:

P226E00 – Particulate filter deteriorated/missing substrate (bank 2)

P067600 – Cylinder 6 Glow Plug Circuit

P103200 – Nox Sensor signal too high

P157000 – Engine Control Unit Disabled

P200600 – Intake Manifold Runner Control Bank 1 Stuck Closed

Being an Audi specialist, our technician checked each system one by one to determine which component(s) had failed for each code. A live data check was performed when our technician took the Audi for a test drive. It was to make sure there were no underlying issues that could result in a catastrophic engine failure. Fortunately, our client’s Audi did not have a major engine issue, it was the glow plugs that were found to be at fault.

Glow plugs are used in diesel engines to heat the mixture of incoming air and fuel before combustion to ease vehicle start-up. They are used on especially cold days, as diesel engines do not rely on the spark that petrol engines use. In order to burn air and fuel, they rely on compression. In the event that the glow plugs fail, one or more cylinders won’t fire as easily on a cold day, making the engine inefficient and taking longer to start.

Our technician determined the glow plug in Cylinder 6 had high resistance and was faulty. This needed to be replaced in order to ensure the SQ5 could run optimally once again. Luckily for our client, they left their car in the safe hands of our Audi SQ5 specialists at Somerset Vehicle Services.

How We Fixed the Glow Plug Problem

For the same reasons as spark plugs, ignition coils, and other major engine parts, glow plugs should also be changed entirely to ensure they function correctly. Our technician knew this from experience and advised the client that they should change all the plugs on the V6 diesel unit.

In accordance with our client’s agreement, the new parts were ordered from our Audi specialist supplier and delivered on the same day. As a result, our technician was able to replace them almost immediately, getting our client’s Audi back up and running as soon as possible.

Our Audi technician then cleared all the fault codes on the Audi using ODIS and tested the car to ensure the new glow plugs were working. The trip was a success, and the client was able to drive away the very same day.
