Mercedes A Service

Breaking down is the worst feeling. Especially when you find out it was a minor fault which could have easily been fixed.

It can happen to you if you don’t service your Mercedes.

Regular servicing ensures your car is kept in a healthy working condition. Small issues are detected and ironed out before they become expensive, major problems.

Your risk of breaking down is higher the longer you wait between services. It is so stressful when you break down as it is often when you’re in a rush and need to get somewhere. The good news is, it can be easily avoided.

To ensure your vehicle performs its best, Mercedes has come up with two types of services:

  • Mercedes A Service
  • Mercedes B Service

No matter which service is due on your Mercedes, you need to keep to its service schedule. Both Mercedes services are intended to keep your warranty intact too, whilst you drive safely on the road.

During our client’s visit to Somerset Vehicle Services, they were unsure which Mercedes service was due on their C-Class.

With our team of Mercedes experts on hand, we were soon able to assist them. Thanks to our dealership-level access to service records and technical information, we handle a wide range of issues with Mercedes vehicles.

Our specialists informed our client which type of service was due on their C Class and began work.

At Somerset Vehicle Services, we provide the best level of service at a better rate than a Mercedes main dealer.

What are the main Differences Between a Mercedes A and B Service?

We get asked this question a lot at Somerset Vehicle Services. The main difference between them is outlined below:

When your car turns one year old, it typically needs the Mercedes A Service. Then, every two years (depending on how much you’ve driven), you’ll need it again.

The Mercedes A Service involves:

  • Changing the oil filter
  • Putting in new synthetic motor oil
  • Checking the brakes
  • Make sure the tyres are inflated correctly
  • Resetting the maintenance counter.

The Mercedes B Service is more thorough. It’s best for older Mercedes cars or those with high mileage.

Your Mercedes B Service is usually due one year after your Mercedes A Service. Each year, you alternate between the two services.

The Mercedes B Service includes:

  • Replacing the synthetic motor oil
  • Changing the cabin dust/combination filter
  • Resetting the maintenance counter
  • Changing the oil filter
  • Checking the brakes.

Our client was not sure which service was due on their Mercedes C Class, so they reached out to our team of experts for guidance.

Thanks to our dealership-level access to service records, our team of specialists were able to inform them right away about the specific service due on their Mercedes.

What We Did Next

Our team checked our client’s service records for their C Class and found that it required a Mercedes A service.

We noticed when we performed the service and safety inspection, that our client’s C Class had a wheel alignment issue.

This is common across all vehicles, as wear and tear or hitting potholes, kerbs, speed bumps and objects in the road cause your wheels to be knocked out of line.

Whilst at first, it may not seem a serious issue, it can lead to uneven tyre wear and make it difficult to drive in a straight line, compromising your safety.

After all, you want to be safe on the road, don’t you?

If you leave misaligned wheels for too long, the issue can get worse. Poor handling from uneven wheels results in a risk of accidents as it affects your Mercedes handling.

Our client’s C Class was not damaged from the wheel alignment issue but there was an issue with uneven tyre wear. The front, right tyre was significantly worn out compared to the others and was below the legal limit.

How We Fixed The Issue

To avoid issues in the future, our client’s Mercedes C Class needed a wheel alignment and a new tyre.

We made sure to inform our client about the issues with their vehicle and called them to run through the suggested work.

Somerset Vehicle Services always keeps you informed about what we encounter and how we aim to fix your vehicle. You are in complete control and decide if you want the work carried out or not.

We sought permission from our client before starting work, and once we had the green light, we began fixing their wheel alignment issue. After replacing the worn tyre and aligning the wheels, we performed the Mercedes A service and finished our safety inspection.

We go above and beyond the recommended testing handed to us in the Mercedes guidelines to ensure your vehicle is safe and performing optimally.

Our client’s C Class passed without trouble after our work, and we were able to hand back their keys with confidence.

Our client was happy to see their car serviced and working well after just a few hours in our workshop. This is much quicker than the main Mercedes dealership and you also get better-than-dealer value when you come straight to us.

Summary

Our client came to us not knowing which service was required for their Mercedes C Class.

Our team of specialists have vast experience servicing Mercedes vehicles and know how to find out.

We discovered that the C Class required a Mercedes A service.

Our team found an issue with wheel alignment, it meant that our client’s tyre was wearing unevenly.

Our experts suggested replacing the tyre as it had worn heavily and realigned the wheels once we had permission from our client.

Within just a few hours, our client had their vehicle back after a safety check, service, wheel alignment and a new tyre. They drove away confident that their vehicle was in peak condition and safe once more.
